RespiCare Supports Walk to Defeat ALS®

RespiCare is once again honored to sponsor and help raise awareness and funds for the ALS Association by participating in the Broward Walk to Defeat ALS held on February 28, 2015 and the Palm Beach Walk being held on March 21, 2015.

The ALS Association is a non-profit organization committed to fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease that causes motor neuron degeneration that results in weakness and eventual paralysis of all voluntary muscles, including the muscles used for respiration. In ALS, motor neurons that innervate the muscles used for inspiration die, leading to respiratory insufficiency and eventual respiratory failure. The most common cause of death for ALS patients is respiratory failure due to weakness of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles. Symptoms of respiratory insufficiency include orthopnea, dyspnea, daytime fatigue, sleep disturbances, and morning headaches.

The Walk to Defeat ALS® successfully raised over $32 million in 2014, well beyond their goal of $25 million dollars. This brilliant fundraiser is a wonderful way to raise money and awareness for this debilitating disease which has taken away and affected too many precious lives. The RespiCare team is excited to be a part of this fundraiser and strives to make 2015 even more successful.
